If you have any questions not addressed here, please feel free to contact us!
A. Yes. At home, to prevent ingrown hairs, we recommend that you exfoliate the area twice a week, apply moisturizer twice daily and go “commando” (skip the underwear!) while sleeping.
Also, to maintain your Brazilian, we recommend spacing your appointments 4-6 weeks apart. Trust us: The more your wax, the easier it gets.
A. Absolutely. It’s more common than you might think and our therapists are all professional, trained to treat everybody equally with respect.
A. Yes, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- Women will find it less painful 2-10 days after their period ends.
- If possible, shave the area to be lasered 3-4 days before coming in. Ideally, you’ll have 2-3 mm of growth for us to work with.
- In between your laser appointments, go ahead and shave, but do not wax.
- Laser works best on lighter skintones, so avoid tanning for two weeks before your session. This includes sunless tanners.
- Don’t expose lasered (or waxed) skin to sunlight for 48 hours after treatment.
- Laser works best on darker hair, so do not bleach or lighten the hair.
- Avoid exercise and hot tubs for 24 hours after treatment.
A. Yes! We’re happy to host up to six people in your party and can offer a range of treatments to suit your schedule and budget.
A. While we promise that you’ll leave Touch of Joy with skin that’s primed and treated to function at its best, how long those benefits last depend on a variety of things, including your lifestyle. We can’t control the skincare products you use at home, whether or not you use sun protection (always!), how much alcohol you drink (less!), how much water you don’t drink (more!), etc.
It also depends on how long you’ve been in our care. The more facials you’ve had with us over the changing seasons, the better we’ll understand your specific skincare needs.
A. Yes. We’re all about skin health, and that includes offering clinical services that deal with issues such as skin tags, telangiectasia (broken capillaries), vascular lesions, ruby points, lentigines, etc. Chances are, if you have an unwanted skin growth, we can “zap” it using electrocautery or a Hyfrecator (high frequency eradicator). Trust us, we’ve seen it all.
A. Yes, light therapy (or, phototherapy) is a very safe and effective treatment that’s been around since the early 1900s when it was used to treat skin infections including smallpox lesions. This is very similar to the artificial light system used to treat Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), the main difference being that SAD requires exposure to full spectrum, whereas we use precise wavelengths (different colours) to treat specific conditions.
Four different wavelengths are commonly used, visible as the colours blue, green, yellow and red. They can be used individually or in combination and presented in a variety of sequences. The colours and patterns used are determined by the therapist to treat conditions ranging from acne, inflammation, dullness, eczema, etc.
There are no UV rays, your eyes will be well-protected with goggles and there’s no down-time. While most find this a soothing treatment, those with claustrophobia may be uncomfortable.
A. Yes, we can certainly help you with issues such as brightening, tightening and hydrating. We can even treat emergency pimples.
But for anything that requires a cell turnover cycle (28 days) or a significant downtime, we won’t go there. So as long as you come with reasonable expectations, we’ll do our best to make your skin look its best.
A. No, unfortunately we’re not able to come out to your home or event. But we know some amazing makeup artists we’re happy to recommend.
A. For underground parking, Best Buy and Save-on-Foods have garages are across the street. Otherwise, metered street parking is available on 6th Avenue in front of the clinic. If you anticipate being here longer than two hours, we suggest paying for your first two hours in cash, then topping up with your phone for additional time.
Q. I have sensitive/reactive skin. Can I still get microdermabrasion or a peel? Will they be too irritating for my skin type?
A. Yes, with a well-trained therapist, you can safely have these procedures done. Every client’s skin has different considerations, so we’ll simply assess your skin on the day of your facial and adjust the protocol accordingly.
The only time we would suggest not having these procedures is if your face is sunburned or if you are currently or recently finished a course of medication such as Accutane.
Q. I currently have eczema/milia/acne. Can I still come in for a facial or should I wait until my skin is clear?
A. Yes. Don’t hesitate to come in for a facial or consultation when your skin is in a reactive state. That’s what we’re here for! We can assess your skin’s condition and help you figure out what’s at the root of your problem and what the best course of therapy is. And at the very least, for skin that unhappy, we can immediately help with issues such as rebuilding the moisture barrier or addressing excess sebum.
A. Yes! Before you book your session, consider these points:
- Women will find waxing less painful 2 to 10 days after their period ends.
- Trimming hair to ¼” will make waxing easier.
- Taking an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen (ex: Advil) half an hour before your appointment can help reduce tenderness.
- Avoid salt and drink plenty of water in the week before your appointment.
- Exfoliate the area the day before your appointment.
A. Truthfully, yes. Depending on your pain threshold, it can feel like tiny rubber bands snapping or something more intense. For those that prefer, we’re happy to apply a numbing cream before treatment. It will take an additional 30 minutes to take effect.
A. A Lifestyle Package is a customisable program that includes a variety and progression of treatments that will work with your lifestyle – your schedule, your budget, your skincare goals.
Ideally, we’d like to work closely with our clients for a year, to get to know your skin as it changes through the seasons. Also, because your lifestyle choices greatly impact your skin’s health, if you’re already working with a nutritionist, personal trainer, etc., we’re more than happy to coordinate your therapies at Touch of Joy to maximise benefits all around. This is especially true if you’re considering LPG Endermologie, since we can help reinforce positive cellular memory in tandem with your workouts.
But a Lifestyle Package doesn’t have to include LPG Endermologie. It can be entirely focused on a specific skin concern, treatment of a condition or far more general. Chat with one our therapists about this option and learn how much better your skin can be in just one year.
